According to statistics from the Chinese Customs Administration, in the first 3 months of 2023, China’s imports of bananas, mangoes, mangosteens, watermelons, durians, longans, rambutans, dragon fruits, and lychees reached 885. 3 thousand tons, worth 1.18 billion USD, down 18.9% in volume, but up 6.2% in value compared to the same period in 2022. The average import price of 9 types of fruit reached 1,329.7 USD/ton, up 31% over the same period in 2022.
Bananas, mangoes, mangosteen, watermelon, durian, longan, rambutan, dragon fruit, lychee are fruits that Vietnam is allowed to officially export to this market. Among them, Vietnam and China have signed three protocols on exporting mangosteen, durian and bananas to China. In addition, Vietnam is negotiating to sign protocols with: dragon fruit, watermelon, lychee, longan, rambutan, mango. In addition to the nine fruits mentioned above, Vietnam is also allowed to officially export jackfruit and passion fruit to China.
Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines are the three main markets supplying these 9 fruits to China. The proportion of imports from these markets in China’s total imports increased.

The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited statistics from the General Department of Customs showing that Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in April 2023 reached 391.4 million USD, an increase of 22% compared to April/ 2022. Overall, in the first 4 months of 2023, fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.4 billion USD, an increase of 17.6% over the same period in 2022. With a growth rate of 17.6% in the first 4 months of 2023, vegetable has become a bright spot in the country’s export activities.
In particular, the sharp increase in fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market has promoted positive growth of the fruit and vegetable industry. The potential for exporting fruits and vegetables to China is huge because of high market demand.
